Hi Adam,
I don’t know if you remember my grandson, Sawyer, but he’s the 8 year old with low tone you taught to ride last summer. Given his physical limitations and my husband’s (an avid rider) and his Mon’s lack of success I have to admit I was a little skeptical.
Anyway, figured you’d enjoy a follow-up. Whenever they came out (they live in the City) and the weather cooperated they went on the bike path. At first it was stop and go but his endurance and balance progressed. At home he rode the Peloton. His dream was to ride with Gpa, Mom and his brother along the Aruba coast.
Well, what a difference a year makes! In June he rode 12km on a scenic path along the Italian coastline with his Mom and brother, and did a 4 mile ride on a dirt and bumpy road last week on the Aruba coastline with his Gpa, Mom and brother- something he talked about doing all year.
So not only did you teach a child to ride, but you really made a difference in his life. Instead of saying “no thank you” to participating in other physical challenges, he now pushes himself to try new things and physical challenges. He knows if he works hard at something he may succeed at it. He’ll never be an athlete, and of course group sports will never be his forte, but he can enjoy individual athletic activities rather than just feeling he can’t do things.
It’s always nice to hear you’ve truly made a difference to someone, and we wanted you to know how much one hour- and one lesson- meant!
Thanks again,
Marilyn

Honestly - if you and your kid are overscheduled, doing it yourself might scar them, feel like you're not a real dad if you don't do it yourself.... get over it - Adam helped both my kids some years ago to get on bikes. I've taken my kids on 10+ mile bike rides, and I've shown them how to use power tools, how to check the oil, fill the wiper fluid, and many other things. You can still be a good dad if you don't teach your kid to ride a bike for the first time. Also why don't more people recommend people who are awesome and get the job done more? I never even met him in person but I want to thank him.
I did manage to teach the first one how to drive too. Plenty of more opportunities.
